-“M.J. Martin Design Woodworking is a family-run company that specializes in handcrafted solid wood cabinetry and fine architectural pieces. We have been described in the past as artists that work in the medium of wood. We are proud of this description and we view homes and living spaces as our canvas. We see each project as an opportunity; an opportunity to design and create spaces that are unique to the family and to the home that it was made for.

We have been in business for over two decades and have spent that time carving a reputation for ourselves based on trust, craftsmanship, and value. Our clients are everything to us and we aim to build a product, and a relationship, to last a lifetime.”

Our Team

Through years of commitment to their customers, always striving for better techniques, equipment and materials MJ Martin Woodworking is considered to be a sought after option for people who value quality, honesty and integrity.

Michael Martin

Master Craftsman

At a young age Mike was introduced to working with wood by his father. It seemed to come natural, quickly becoming a passion, an identity, and eventually a business in his early 20’s.

“Our first project was the restoration of an old building that caught fire, from there design and construction of additions and new homes”

“We always had a small shop where we designed & crafted things like built-ins, mantles, custom doors and millwork for our projects. I believe that is where the real passion for the finer aspects of woodworking – joinery, cabinet and furniture making was born”

Over the years, Mike has evolved the business into a high-end custom cabinetry & millwork company. Although his job description has changed, he is still happiest returning to the shop where it all started and working with his hands. He feels he is one of the lucky ones, as what he is privileged to do for a living is a large part of who he is.

David Rioux

Craftsman |Operations Manager

Coming from a family of Do-It-Yourselfers, Dave developed an interest in home improvement at a very young age. But, being unaware of the opportunity of working in the trades following high school, Dave attended Central Connecticut State University where he received a B.S. in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, something he was passionate about at the time.

While attending college, Dave worked in construction on nights and weekends, primarily on remodeling jobs. As his passion began to shift to the building industry, he began entertaining the idea of going into the trades. Dave started his own home improvement company in 2012. He worked for several years handling whole jobs, from framing right up to the last brush stroke on the wall. Deciding he was most interested in carpentry, specifically finish carpentry, he began gearing his business toward that.

In 2016 he was introduced to Mike Martin and after working together on several jobs, Mike offered him a full-time position at his company.  Dave now acts as the Operations Manager for the shop, supervising the manufacturing and fabrication process of our custom jobs all the way through to delivery and install. Bringing with him years of knowledge in the building industry along with a strong passion for woodworking and a keen eye for detail, Dave is responsible for consistently delivering quality products to our clients.

In his spare time, Dave enjoys spending time outdoors with family and friends hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking, and more woodworking.

Susan Bato

Mike designed, built and installed 2 areas of cabinetry - a bar center to include our wine refrigerator and a buffet cabinet with upper cabinets. They are beautiful and exactly what we wanted! Working with Mike from start to finish was easy and enjoyable. His craftsmanship is outstanding with remarkable attention to details. His installer, Dave, did a fantastic job with precision on installation and work area cleanliness. I would highly recommend Mike and his team!

Marissa Davis

Mike was very helpful in achieving my goal in creating an elegant mantle and kitchen hutch. He worked with the existing design in my home and worked in a timely manner. He was also able to accommodate some last minute changes on my part.

R. Madorin

If you want your project done on time, on budget and to perfection then I suggest you hire M J Martin Woodworking. Mike accepts nothing less than perfect in his projects and left this customer completely satisfied. Our project arrived and was installed to our satisfaction, but not to Mike's and when he insisted on repairing some imperfections that we could not see, I fully expected a request for some additional compensation, but Mike held to his original estimate. It is without reservation that I recommend him.
